OptiSwitch Technology Corporation (OTC) is pleased to announce the availability of a new compact, pulsed laser diode driver capable of independently driving two laser diode bar stacks. The PLDD-120-10-20D is a dual-channel laser diode driver ideal for applications where the user needs to switch between two diode pumped laser sources—for example an integrated laser rangefinder and laser marker/target designator. Switching the output of the PLDD-120-10-20D is achieved by simply toggling a digital signal input. This insures that both channels cannot be fired simultaneously. Each channel of this unit is capable of driving a 10 bar stack to 120 amps with a 300 μs pulse. The repetition rate at this level is 20 Hz; however, increased repetition rates can be achieved at either reduced currents or pulse widths. Conversely, higher peak current can be achieved at reduced pulse widths. The driver’s small footprint (2.2” x 2.2” x 0.86”) and light weight (2.24 oz) makes it ideal for hand-held applications.
